Editing Blog
In my advert I put in fade to blacks to make the advert look more professional and smooth when watching it, I used this because it makes the advert look better instead of the advert jumping from shot to shot. I put fade ins and outs on the guilty scene of my advert to show what he is guilty for which was electricity i did this because it would let my audience understand what the advert is about and not to leave it on because that is what causes global warming. I made the advert slow paced to go along with the sound track which was Gary Jules - Mad World to make it look and feel emotional.
Advantages and Disadvantages
Can't upload this document computer crashed and did not safe my work but i printed it out and its in my Unit 2 folder
Sequencing and effects
In final cut express i used raw footage from cameras that i filmed myself, when the footage was on final cut express i had to use to in and out markers to get the footage i wanted to use, when i did that i dragged it on my time line and put it in the order i wanted my advert to be. if i had made one shot to long i could of used the razor blade tool to get rid of the footage i didn't need. i used fade to blacks in my advert to make my footage more smooth and professional.
Capturing Blog
Scratch disks, you have to click on the final cut express icon and it will come up with reset scratch disk, you then click on it, then it will come up with a paragraph of writing just click ok, then it will come up with a table saying set click on that, then click new folder and write your name, when you have done that click on your name and it will say capture scratch click that then press choose and click ok and then continue. Scratch disks are important because that is where all your work in stored so you have to make sure it is safe or all your work will be lost
When you capture footage on a tape and you want it on final cut express you need to plug in a lead from your camera to the back of the computer and then press file, capture and it will capture your footage, for me it was successful because when i new how to do it, it was fine i could do it every time

Filming and Continuity Blog
i had to make a short film on global warming, i had to do a lot of preparation to do this and a story board so we knew what was happening and how long the shots were going to be and and how editing would be put together. In my advert i used close ups and a long shot, i used close ups to show the importance of what was happening in the advert and i used an advert so you knew where they were and what was happening. I also put sound on my advert to give it a emotional feel as well as making it emotional.

Production monitoring Blog 7th March 2011
7th March - This week I made a start on my treatment work as well as my script and storyboard. I finished my treatment booklet so it gave me more time to focus on my story boards and other work for my Unit 3. I found the social advert and documentary planning sheet quite hard to do because I wasn't sure what I should do for my advert but with some help I managed to get some good ideas. On the 9th of March I went down to book a camera but there wasn't any left for the rest of the week so I couldn't do any of my advert, to prevent this I need to be quick at getting the slip signed and to go down and get one booked even if it's just for a night.
14th March - This week I handed in my Unit 3 but then got the work back to improve it and to finish bits off that I hadn't done and then handed it again. I was struggling a lot because I have a lot of other work to be doing, so it was hard for me to find the time to fit in every subject. But I managed and it is all completed. To prevent this from happening I could do every subject a night for a certain length of time so I won't fall behind. I also booked a camera on the 17th but unfortunately there was no tape inside to use so I couldn't do any of my advert so it didn't go to plan, to prevent this from happening I got my tape from Lee so if i get another camera like that I will be able to do my advert no matter what.
21st March - This week I have been concentrating on my advert because my Unit 3 work is completed. I haven't actually started my advert because I was unable to book a camera because they were all being used. But I do have some footage from the oil rigs where my dad works, so hopefully I will be able to get a camera booked and do bits of my advert. I also got my Unit 2 work back to improve from a mark band 2 to a mark band 3 so by the end of this week I should have that completed and handed in so Lee can mark it. I will be booking a camera out for this week so I can catch up on my advert because I am behind and then I will upload it to the computer and then edit so I can put in absence of presence and background music and then let Lee see it so I can get his feedback on how to make it better.
28th March - Last week I wasn't able book a camera for wednesday night but lucky enough Lee had a share camera so I managed to film parts of my advert, to me so far what I have taken could of been a bit better but when I put the music in the background I think it will look Ok. This week I will be finishing my filming and staying back on the tuesday, wednesday and thursday night to do all my editing and to put in my sound track. Difficulties I will have are that I will fall behind in other subjects because I'm focusing on my media work. I cant do anything to stop this from happening because if I do, the advert won't be finished for the deadline which is friday.

Skills Development 5th November
The skills I have learnt are how to use white balance, using colour bars, and how to record/playback on a camera.
Colour bars are used to calibrate video and television, the are used so you don't lose any of your footage. record and playbacks on the camera are so you can record any footage and to play back so you can see if the footage has actually recorded or if you need to do a certain scene again.
I've also learnt how to control the speed of the footage and to add slow motion sections into my footage. I found it quite hard to do at first but when i got told how to do it more in detail i understood it more clearly so in the end i found it really easy to do, we did this to set a mood for the advert such as happy and exciting or emotional. I also used chrome key to get rid of colour where i didn't want it to make certain things stand out so the audience know what is important and what isn't (will make them look at the object that is uneven to the rest).
I learnt how to add effects into the footage we captured i found this really easy to do and a lot of fun, we did this so we knew how to add effects if we wanted to in our footage.

Introduction Project
Personal Evaluation Write up
In this project, I have developed some new skills, for example. I have learnt how to move pictures and texts around to where I want them, and how to add layers. I've also learnt how to change the page sizes.
My weaknesses are text, i'm still not sure how to add shadows, colour to the text so it stands out more instead of it being boring, i could improve it by learning how to use PhotoShop abit better so i can make the writing more appealing.
I think i'm doing ok because I havent used PhotoShop before so what i have picked up in the one lesson I think I've done quite well. The skills I have to develop further would be text and layers because at the moment I find them quite hard to use so once I get the hang of them I should be fine.
The skills I've used in my project are Layers, Text control and Contrast and Brightness Control. I think I've used these skills quite effectively because you can look at the photo and you can tell they have been used to make it stand out more so it appeals to the target audience.
If I had the chance to do this project again I would change the object(Caramel Bars) because it was rather hard to see who the target audience was. The skills i have identified are Text Control, Layers, Brightness and Contrast Control and Gradients.
My target audience before I re-branded it was for adults mainly women because they are the ones that go food shopping and are looking for deals. But now my new target audience is for adults (women) but also more towards teenagers because most of them love chocolate and caramel, they also like trying new things if they see their friends eating something they will want to buy one to fit in, see what all the fuss is about.
The elements that work well with engaging my audience are how i've brightened the Caramel Bar and darkened the background. These elements work because the Bar now stands out alot more so the target audience knows what the main object is so they can buy it.
The elements I think don't work well is the font, I could of made it more interesting by adding shadows to it and theres also the background it's abit boring. If I had the chance to do this project again i would make the poster have 3 colours that will appeal to both male and female audience and have the slogan more bold with a different font and coloured shadows.
I don't think it is tailored to meet the demands of my Target Audience because it's plain and boring so they will look and it and look away because its not eye catching, to get my Target Audience interested i could use different colours, effects (shadows), different fonts.
Colour- I used the brightness/contrast tool, Hue and Saturation, Exposure, drop shadow, outer glow, Inner glow, colour overlay and stoke. I used these to make the background darker so the object (caramel bar) stands out from the background. The colours used are gold, red, and white because that is the actual packaging colour of the bar, and the background is leaves which are green and brown. I purposely made the background darker so the object will stand out and attract the Target Audience. These colours contrast because brown, red, green and gold are autumn colours plus by the background you can tell its autumn because that’s when they start coming off the tree.
Image- Camera angle used in this poster are a close up, where you can see the hands holding the bar and the bar itself. On the poster you can see the bar and the background and you can tell that the background is much darker than the object so it’s more eye-catching.
Text Usage- “Share you know you want to!!!” is the slogan which I have made black and red. I put the lettering in Black and the outline Red the font I used is Gill sans Ultra Bold. The Key words are “You Know You Want To” because by this it’s tempting the audience to buy one to try it. The 2 hands holding the bar shows that they are going to share it because they are 2 different hands, there’s no emotional connotation because it was a close up of the Caramel Bar.
Layout – The Slogan is at the bottom because I couldn’t really put it at the top because I would be covering up half the main picture, I have put the text in the centre because it’s underneath the picture so it will catch the readers eye because it’s in Bold letters. Text is straight because you don’t want to many distractions so the audience will look away from the main picture (caramel bar), I used shadows to make the text more effective.
